Dr. Tony Wasserman is a professor of Software Engineering Practice at Carnegie Mellon University's West Coast Campus, and executive director of the Center for Open Source Investigation (COSI). He is currently the chairman of the Steering Committee for the Business Readiness Rating project. Previously, Wasserman was vice president of Bluestone Software (acquired by HP), where he led the development of an open source toolkit for access to J2EE applications from mobile devices. During the dotcom boom, he was VP of Engineering for a dotcom startup. As founder and CEO of Interactive Development Environments, Inc. (IDE), Wasserman built IDE and made it a recognized leader in computer-aided software engineering. Prior to starting IDE, he was a professor at the University of California. Wasserman is an internationally recognised leader in the software community, and has been selected as fellows of both the ACM and the IEEE. He has published more than 60 technical papers and edited eight books. Wasserman earned a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin - Madison and a B.A. in Mathematics and Physics from the University of California, Berkeley.

Born on 2nd April 1948, Dr. Deepak B. Phatak graduated in Electrical Engineering from Indore and then completed his M. Tech. and Ph. D. in Computer Science. He is with IIT Bombay since 1971. He served in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering till January 2000 and was the Department head from 1991 to 1994. He also served as the first Dean of Resource Development for IIT Bombay from 1995 to 1998. He was the founding head of Kanwal Rekhi School of Information Technology set up in October 1998 at the Institute. He was appointed to the Subrao Nilekani Chair in the School in January 2000. He headed the S J Mehta School of Management from July 2004 to June 2005.
His research interests are in the areas of databases and information systems, software engineering, system performance evaluation, IT-enabled education and IT strategy planning. His primary research inclinations are in technology application and deployment areas. He has been involved with several initiatives for adoption of state-of-art technology in different organisations.

He has received many awards including the prestigious Dadabhai Naoroji Memorial Award in 2001 and was conferred the Padma Bhusan in the year 2002.
F C Kohli worked both in the US and India, before joining the Tata Consultancy Services in India as the general manager in September 1969. In 1974, he was made the director-in-charge and in 1994 deputy chairman. Be it the propagation of computerisation in India at a time when no one realised its potential, or bringing the benefits of IT to India’s rural masses through computer based Adult Literacy programme, Kohli saw IT as an instrument of national development. He has been working on advancing engineering education at undergraduate level to world standards to create a large pool of students for undertaking graduate studies and research. With IIT Bombay and Ministry of Information Technology he initiated the project to graduate 3000 Microelectronic engineers at Masters level. He indicated the need for IT use within the country in all spheres of activity some years back and this has taken shape in terms of affordable computers and Open-source software in Indian Languages. |

Satya started with Unisys in India and was one of the first Java geeks to run the Java and Internet tide from 1994-95. He was the head of "e-business Center" of CGI(formerly IMRGlobal) in Florida, USA and was instrumental in transitioning IMR Global from a Y2K company to modernization and an e-Business consulting firm.
He later became the Head of Architecture in National Division of Nielson Media Research, the pioneers of Media and TV ratings in the US. Here he had taken the company to use Open Source products which resulted in a saving of $MM per year on Server licenses only. As the Head of Architecture, he has addressed several audiences on Enterprise Architecture, Open Source Software, Data Warehousing both internal and to other VNU Companies. Satya one of the early customers of JBoss from 2001 onwards, became their mouth piece customer and finally decided to plunge into the Open Source arena as the Director of Asia Pacific operations, JBoss Inc.
